Reimagining Echo, Home Security, and More
In a recent interview on Tech Talk, Luis Alvarez, CEO of the Alvarez Technology Group, describes the new hardware that Amazon unveiled in October. There’s plenty of advanced gadgetry, from the new Echo lineup to game streaming services.
However, the most intriguing new tech might be Amazon’s cybersecurity system.
What Is Amazon’s New Always Home Cam?
The Always Home Cam is Amazon’s home security drone, which has a built-in camera that projects video to your phone, tablet, or computer. This autonomous indoor security camera flies to pre-selected locations, so you can easily check-in when you’re not at home. It has a docking charging station and automatically responds to intruder alerts through Amazon’s Ring alarm system.
When Ring activates an alert, the drone launches, records video, and you can observe what’s happening from your device.
How Does Ring for Cars Work?
The Ring system for cars is another form of surveillance and anti-theft system that utilizes a car camera system that enables you to monitor and record driving-related activity. If something hits your car, the camera automatically switches to “on” and starts to record. It can even record events if you get pulled over. Just say, “Alexa, I’m being pulled over,” and the Ring automatically starts recording the interaction between you and the law enforcement officer.
Security isn’t the only new tech coming from Amazon this year. There’s something new in online streaming as well.
What Is Amazon Developing for the Gaming Industry?
Alvarez says that Luna is Amazon’s first foray into the online gaming industry and speculates that the inspiration came from our collective months of isolation during the pandemic. Consumers are looking for ways to entertain themselves, so Amazon is throwing its hat in the ring along with Google’s online game streaming service, Stadia, Microsoft’s Xbox, and the latest, X-Cloud.
You can subscribe to Amazon’s gaming service and play games that the subscription includes on devices you already own. You can even buy games just like buying a movie online. Request your invitation for early access.
Will We Be Able to Use PayPal on Amazon Any Time Soon?
Alverez says that he believes Amazon considers PayPal a competitor, but he disagrees with that sentiment. Still, he doesn’t think the company will be accepting PayPal any time soon. He suggests the power of public persuasion. If it’s important to you to get Amazon to accept PayPal, gather a group, create a petition, and use email to change Amazon’s mind.
In the meantime, while Amazon doesn’t accept PayPal payments, you can use your PayPal account to make purchases by using your PayPal Business Mastercard, debit card, or PayPal’s virtual card.
