CEO Luis Alvarez Talks Flying Cars
CEO of the Alvarez Technology Group talks about the future of flying cars and Uber and Hyundai’s exciting partnership.
In January, Luis Alvarez, CEO of Alvarez Technology Group, got to sit down and talk about his experiences at the 2020 Consumers Electronics Show. By and large, what he found to be the most exciting new technology and a technological partnership was the partnership of Uber and Hyundai and their dream of a tomorrow with flying taxis.
Flying Cars and the Technology of Tomorrow’s Transportation
As Alvarez notes in the interview, flying cars have been something humanity has long dreamed of. It’s also something that many people who live today think is far in the future — at least until this show. Alvarez talked with representatives from both Hyundai and Uber and noted in the interview that, “they think they can get in the air in the next three or four years because it’s using existing technology and existing components… This will give high-density places like New York and LA and Seattle and San Francisco riders there a new way to get from place to place.” Uber has already instituted helicopter rides in downtown New York City while private jet companies offer quick travel within states and regions, such as that exists in the Southwest.
What’s new this year, is the flying car itself. The unveiled concept vehicles promised all-electric with a range of 60 to 100 miles and about 150 miles per hour. Therefore, these are designed to be an efficient and effective short-range commuter. It’s important to note that Hyundai plans to roll them specifically for Uber and as a public transport option. In unveiling their concept car, the group also presented their designs for a fully integrated ground-based infrastructure. This infrastructure supports the in-the-air Uber taxi service as sorts of hubs where people go for pick-up and take-off — similar to what they are doing now with the NYC helicopter transport.
