Recently, Tech Talk interviewed our CEO Luis Alvarez on how to prepare for the COVID-19 health crisis. Here is a bit of what Luis had to say about the virus just a few short weeks ago and how the pandemic continues to change how we do business on almost a daily basis at this point.
Working from Home is the New Normal Are You Ready?
As most companies already know, working remotely is the new normal. California is currently under a stay at home order, which means non-essential employees are to remain at their residence or work remotely to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Hopefully, your firm prepared appropriately for this moment by having VPNs and other security tools to reduce the risk of data breaches and other security issues. If not, please get in touch with us immediately so we can assist in protecting you right away.
Beware of Phishing Scams
Another important thing to consider is the rise in phishing scams happening now. Emails that give advice or instructions on what you need to protect yourself from the virus often look entirely legitimate. However, once you get in there, the senders want you to click on links or open files that download malware onto your PC. This is a big problem and we are seeing more of it occurring on an almost daily basis as the crisis continues. To keep it from happening to you, be smart and avoid anything from a sender that you don’t recognize or one that doesn’t make sense.
Tech Conferences and Meetings Cancelled
It’s also important to note that hundreds of tech conferences and meetings have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19. Some that were on the schedule as late as November and December are already pulling the plug. We have no idea how long this era is going to continue and it could be quite a while before significant tech companies announce their latest offerings with so many cancellations happening. However, most technology types are pretty savvy, so it is likely we will start to see virtual conferences popping up to fill the void soon.
Wrapping It Up
There’s no doubt that COVID-19 and the fallout associated with social distancing is impacting all of us. The most important thing to remember is to follow all World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines on health while still maintaining an appropriate social distance by staying at home.
