“Previous Apple Watches have always had a heart monitor, but [it can now] perform an electrocardiogram (also known as EKG or ECG), a test that measures the electrical activity of your heartbeat. What’s more, the new Apple Watch’s ECG feature is FDA-cleared to detect atrial fibrillation,” according to a recent article in Self.

The Apple Watch has a lot of tech surrounding healthcare. It detects your heartbeat every five seconds, and doctors can review the records to analyze recent trends.

“These devices are becoming more prevalent in our lives and can be used for more than just telling the time,” says Alvarez, whose own doctor asked to see the results stored in his Android watch.
